The New Automotive Policy

6:24 AM

The news in the last 2 weeks was abuzz with the New Automotive Policy. The announcement was highly anticipated by motor heads and economists since Budget 2014 (and 2013 Elections in view of BN's manifestos). I am not a an economist but I can consider myself as a car enthusiast. Paultan, if you are reading this I LOVE YOUR BLOG! If you can't tell the difference between a Myvi and a Viva, this post may not be significant. But if you can't tell the difference between a Perdana (Accordana) and an Accord, you may be forgiven.
Can you spot the difference?

The great people at imoney.my came out with this wonderful piece of infographic regarding the NAP 2014.

How will it effect you and me? Not much in the near future. We won't be expecting a drop in car prices that fast. Hopefully if everything goes well, Malaysia can become a hub for Energy Efficient Vehicle (EEVs). This will enable prices of hybrids to drop and benefit Malaysians. However, the issue of Approved Permits to certain individuals will continue to hamper the future of Malaysia's automotive industry. But hey, I AM NOT A POLITICIAN nor an ECONOMIST. Don't take my word for it.

An important note to anyone keen on buying an imported hybrid, BUY NOW! The import duty for imported hybrid cars will be discontinued. Get your Audi A6 Hybrid NOW! I would love to get one but ongkosnya enggak ada dong! (I still can't afford a Bane mask yet)

Having said that, please bear in mind that cars are not assets. The value of the car WILL depreciate and costs of maintenance will increase as the car gets older. Always ukur baju di badan sendiri. If you can only afford a Saga SV, don't go and get a Vios and cry about the high costs of living.
