Nurses Are Humans Too

9:10 AM

It is getting harder to become a healthcare provider these days. First the consultoids, then the Facebook & Google consultants and the "semua ubat ni Yahudi laknat punya kerja" group, last but not least the 'over the top testimony' marketers (refer to Frust Lagi!). Now there are people throwing dirt on medical staff. Its hard to do work with passion and sincerity when you get comments like this:

If you believe this, this blog is not for you!

"Swasta memang la best layanan die sbb tu la mahal..kalau kerajaan ni kan murah.. so layanan macam XXXXXXX murahan..semua staff2 nurse kerajaan ni mmg dah mcm XXXXXXX murahan.!!"

I'm not sure what happened in that person's past; maybe a nurse killed her cat or had some sort of REALLY REALLY bad experience to call someone XXXXXX. I bleeped out that part as I deemed it to be too kurang ajar. I am sure most of you have read the Facebook circulations anyway. But any facts that are circulated via Facebook or Whatsapp are deemed FALSE UNTIL PROVEN OTHERWISE.

If the FB comment was true, let's just pray that the person realizes the mistake and do the rightful thing. To be frank, I had some bad experiences with nurses as well. When I was a houseman I was bullied by my nurses.

"Doctor line patient katil 5 'bunk'"............they will call you at 3 am in the morning.....when you are doing CPR.....in the same ward as the nurse!

Very frustrating. But as I progressed and showed the nurses that I can work as a team, they became my team mates. Towards the end of every posting, nurses will help me every way they can. If they can attempt to insert the branula they will do it. So Housemen, beware...nurses can be your enemy or friend. It all depends on your cockiness.

Being a nurse is no easy task, especially nurses in the wards. Almost 90% of nurses in Malaysia are ladies. Most of them have husbands and children of their own. Sometimes, they will have to care for other's children, parents and spouses while their own families are sick at home. Not so long ago there was a comment regarding a nurse caught napping at the ward counter.

"Dah tahu kerja malam, tidur la dekat rumah siap siap"

When you are a wife and a mother, do you expect to sleep in the day? Can you sleep while your children jump around you, dirty dishes to wash, laundry and serve food for the husband? Repeat that for 3 consecutive nights.

There are instances when the parents are admitted to the ward accompanied by their children. They arrogantly asks the nurses to change the parents diapers quickly even though the nurses are busy attending to high risk patients. If a grown up child can't even change their parents diapers, how is it OK for total strangers to change the diapers. Mana orang yang dok bising suruh DOKTOR PEREMPUAN SAJA BOLEH RAWAT ISTERI SAYA? Kalau misi tu perempuan TAKPE la pulak tukar lampin bapak kamu?

It is not easy being caring for total complete strangers in the ward. Officially, their shift starts at 9pm to 7am but they have to come earlier and get home later because of passovers.

Of course, there are things that can be improvised. BANYAK GILA! One thing that irritates me most is the NOTHING CAN BE DONE DURING NURSES PASSOVER secret, undercover rule. You can scream your lungs out but NOTHING will get done. Passover tak boleh kacau!

Despite the nurse's shortcomings, it still not right to call nurses XXXXXXX murahan. They are humans as well. I keep on repeating the same thing....

MEDICAL STAFF JUST WANT TO BE TREATED AS HUMAN BEINGS

  17. well, patients in private sectors are more demanding. I am working in a private sector, we always got "showers of saliva" too from the patients and the relatives. What they think is that "I've PAID, I want what I want!" This passage is really touching. I read it many times and shared it twice on my fb wall.

  18. Salam, just want to say thanks...at least u can see us...previously im nurse from prvate sector, and costumers is always right. And its really annoying each times when they said that we paid ur salary, without us u x ada makan...but in front of doctor semua senyap, semua bagus. We all nurse just being punchbag at times ..although we gave the services as best as we can. ,consultant even scold us and management also the same...yet we are not even appreaciated,..tak berbaloi kerja dengan mentally tortured, kena marah and some abusing
Maybe that one of the reason me n some of nurse working in middle east, its totally different. Patient still the same, they hv their own attitude..but doctor really appreciated us, they just doing their job, n respect of nursing profession.. We work here happily, plus the pay also worth. Alhamdullilah. Sorry for the this entry, but i do loves nursing so much. Thanks again doc..☺️
